This tour is a half day private tour with our well informed and expert guides. They will highlight important world art and artifacts from the largest collection dedicated to human history and culture.
The collection began in 1753 when Sir Hans Sloane left his personal collection of books, manuscripts, art and other curiosities to King George II, the British Museum grew extensively over the next two and a half centuries. It was eventually divided into what is now the many divisions of the museum’s branches.
Some of the most famous pieces of the collection include the Rosetta Stone, which was used to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics, the Discus Thrower, which was a Roman copy of the Bronze original from Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli, and the colossal statue of Ramsses II. Ramssess II was considered the greatest and most powerful pharaoh of the Egyptian Empire.
